Case Study: Analyzing The Role Of Water In Mining Conflicts In Peru

According to the Latin American Observatory of Mining Conflicts, mining projects face community opposition in 90% of the countries in the region. Water often drives this opposition. In the paper that we will share below, corresponding author Jorge Salem — an experienced Corporate Social Responsibility Specialist — and his team of coauthors examine quantitatively how often mining conflicts in Peru were water-related. The scope of the study spans from 2007 to 2016, offering a and objective look at a key risk that companies continually have to manage in Latin American mining jurisdictions.
