Stakeholder Engagement In The Energy & Mining Sectors

In this Mining Coffee Chat from August 4, 2020, Dr. Remi Piet (Embellie Advisory) was joined by Reg Manhas (Principal at Purcell Global Strategies), a seasoned government relations and sustainability executive with 20+ years of experience with Talisman Energy and Kosmos Energy.

During the discussion, Reg built on his experience in Africa (Sudan, Ghana, Mauritania, Senegal) and the Americas (Suriname, Peru, Colombia, Canada) to analyze with us the structural dynamics of stakeholder relation management across different continents.

License-to-operate efforts should focus on the specificities of local communities. However, most above- the-ground risks also have an international dimension which influences the interests of stakeholders with whom extractive companies need to engage. This Chat focused on the convergence of geopolitical dynamics, stakeholder relations, and the demand for more sustainability/CSR/transparency. By addressing comprehensively recent trends and several case studies, Reg and Remi underlined best practices and processes to execute a successful stakeholder engagement strategy.
