Mining Reforms And Investment Opportunities In Brazil

In a July 7 Mining Coffee Chat, Dr. Remi Piet — Embellie Advisory — discussed mining developments in Brazil with Tomas de Paola Pessoa Filho (Director General – Brazilian National Mining Agency) and Ana Candida de Melo (BMA).

Panelists also focused on investment opportunities in the mining sector in Brazil, environmental permitting processes and recent measures adopted to mitigate the impact of Covid-19 on the mining sectors.

One particular area of focus was the Plano Lavra, a series of reforms aiming at de-bureaucratizing procedures between the agency and mining companies in order to improve the business environment and recover from the damage suffered by the mineral sector due to the global pandemic.

Finally, this Mining Coffee Chat also addressed the current debate on social license to operate and possibilities to design public hearings and community relations programs at a time of social distancing.
